Acne is a skin problem that affects almost every teenager. These tips are simple but effective and can help clean up your skin.
I’m no dermatologist, and I know some acne conditions are hormonal. However I have suffered from terrible acne myself, and I found making a few changes to my lifestyle helped clear up my skin or helped bring my skin to a better condition.
1. Wear SPF everyday!
It’s a myth when people say that SPF will cause you to break out! Along with that comes the myth that the sun will actually help heal your acne!
The harsh sun rays are UV rays of light which can cause free radical damage to the pigments in your skin leading to inflammation, therefore breakouts. I tend to wear a moisturiser that has a minimum of SPF 15 every day.
The moisturiser I’m using right now is Avene Hydrance Optimale UV Rich.
2. Cut back on the sugar and coffee!
Coffee dehydrates your skin and indulging in sugar can feed Candida overgrowth that may indirectly cause acne.
3. Disinfect your phone screen!
You touch your phone throughout the day transferring germs on to your phone screen in which you hold to your face. So use disinfectant to clean your screen every 2-3 days and every time you finish a gym session.
4. Change your pillowcase cover every week.
Same reason, the oils from your hair transfer on to your pillowcase which will come into contact with your skin when your sleeping, clogging pores and causing all those white bumps you seen in the morning!
5. Don’t over-cleanse/exfoliate your face!
Over-cleansing and can irritate your skin and cause it to dry out. So stick to cleansing once or twice a week and exfoliate once (or twice) a week depending on how sensitive your skin is and don’t rub hard! Gentle circular motions will do the trick.
6. Wash your makeup brushes every 3-4 uses! and keep your makeup brushes and sponges in dry areas and with a cover over them to protect them from picking up dust.
7. Steam your face!
When suffering from acne, one of the best ways to cleanse facial pores is to steam your face. Once your pores have opened and the dirt and debris have been eliminated, your clean pores can now better absorb products you might use, such as a face mask or serum. Leading on to my next point very nicely…
8. Wear face masks!
Sheet masks are really nice and quick to use if you’re in a rush or if it’s a Friday night in or a Sunday Pamper Day, then a clay mask is an amazing pick-me-up for the skin!
9. Drink a cup of water in the morning and a cup of water an hour before bed
Keep yourself hydrated!
