….until one night, he was walking out of the theater as she was walking in. They avoided each other’s eyes and kept walking, but as they passed each other, she saw him hesitate in her direction. He turned to face her. “It should’ve been you,” were the first words to tumble out of his mouth. He was flustered. “She drives me crazy. She drives me crazy, and you were my sanity.”
She looked at him, wide-eyed and confused. He wouldn’t even speak to her anymore, but now he’s confessing his heart out of the blue? “Urm, I don’t understand…”
He laughed a wild laugh and ran his hands over his face. “I made a mistake,” he said, throwing his hands up in defeat. “And I’ve known it since the day I left, but I could never say it out loud. You were my sanity, and when I left we both were never the same.”
